A tale of two teams

This post isn't about two particular teams. It's about individual teams and how they differ depending on whether they are playing at home or on the road.

When looking at the stats, a few things really jump out.

Washington allows the fewest goals on average at home (2.00) but on the road, they are the worst in the league at 3.77. Another two teams stand out in this respect and they are Nashville (2.25 ga at home vs. 3.45 ga on the road) and Phoenix (2.26 ga at home vs. 3.40 ga on the road)

In terms of scoring goals, some teams are particularly good in their own barn. Philly's averaging 4.00 goals for at home and 2.67 on the road. Similarly for Boston (4.35 gf at home vs. 3.05 gf on the road) and Calgary (3.68 gf at home vs. 2.58 gf on the road).

This may or may not help with adjusting your team. The way I see it, try to gather as much info as possible and hope for the best.

Statistics

Almost every major website with an NHL section has general overall statistics. If you want to look further, here are a few handy sites.

For team stats, slam.ca is one of the best. You can get splits by home/away, division and last ten games.

For player stats, I generally go to sportsnet. The points/game summary is particularly handy as well as splits by home/away (splits by month are no longer available).

If I'm just looking up individual player stats, I'll go to Yahoo, which does show split stats and game log in the profile of each individual player.
